A Dream that won’t Die!
“….Come therefore, let us now kill him and cast him into some pit; and we shall say, ‘Some wild beast has devoured him.’ We shall see what will become of his dreams!” (Genesis 37:20, New King James Version).
This is the key Bible verse for our “Come and See” devotional today.
There are no limitations to our thoughts and imagination. Many of us can reflect on things that we had wished for when we were younger and which never came to pass. As we grow older, we come to accept that some of those frivolous and childish wishes were simply unwise and it seems okay that they never happen. However, there is a particular type of dream that should never die and this is the God-inspired dream which indicates His plans and purpose for your future. These dreams are not often explicit and instead can be puzzling and in the form of parables. But must be kept alive!
These could also be likened to our divine purpose in this word, the reason why the Creator of creatures; The Almighty God created us before we were born. For example, concerning Prophet Jeremiah; God said “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations” [Jeremiah 1 v 5 -New King James Version].
The bible also gave account of many patriarchs with dreams must never pass away. Notable mentions include, Father Abraham who became father of many nations, Joseph who became Prime Minister in Egypt, Our Lord Jesus Christ, who came to save mankind from their sins and Apostle Paul who faithfully preached the gospel to the gentiles and in the end he said “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” [1st Timothy 4 v 7-New King James Version].
However, as in the case of Joseph (Genesis 37 v20), there are dream killers who will do everything possible to ensure that a person’s dream does not come to pass. Yet, acting against them we have the Almighty and ever faithful God who cannot lie. God is committed to ensuring that all our dreams come true. He is the one who initiated the dream and would ensure its fulfilment, for the Bible assures us that: “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6, New International Version). Also, in 1st Thessalonians 5 verse 24, Apostle Paul said “He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it” [New King James Version]
But, if those dreams are to come true then we need patience, maturity, obedience and absolute trust in God: nobody can kill our God-given dreams except ourselves either through sins and wilful complacency. Joseph’s dream could have come to an end on the bed of Potiphar, if he had accepted the unsolicited offer of his master’s wife. He said : “… How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9b, King James Version). Your dreams are secured for ultimate fulfilment as long as you see all forms of sins (hidden and obvious) as wicked acts against God of unlimited kindness.
Let us pray: “Father, let your power and mercy enable me fulfil your divine purpose for my life and destiny,” in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
