Activating the Power Within
“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (1st John 4 verse 4, New King James Version).
This is the key Bible verse for our “Come and See” devotional today.
The most important discovery we can ever make is to know our identity because this knowledge holds the key to our purpose and success in life. The Bible states that: “then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32, New International Version). Nothing else can be truer than the Word of God. The key Bible verse for this devotional reveals the truth about our inherent capability. There is the One, greater than all of us, who ensures our victory in every battle of life. This provides a guarantee that the power that lies within us can deal with whatever is happening around us, including sickness and disease, lack of money and financial difficulty, career stagnation and marital crises.
God the Most High is the greatest of all and dwells within us on the basis of His promise of the Holy Spirit. God said: “and afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.” (Joel 2:28, New International Version). The Holy Spirit dwelling within us has designed us to function in the same way as Jesus Christ. It gives us the power to continue with the Acts of the Apostles as recorded in the Bible. The power of any weapon cannot be determined until it is activated and deployed and so the gentle but powerful Spirit of God needs to be stirred up for an encounter with His power. In the letters of Apostle Paul to Timothy, Paul wrote: “therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” (2nd Timothy 1:6, New King James Version).
The advice given by Jesus Christ to His disciples, when they failed to heal an epileptic boy who was brought to them for healing, suggests how the power in us can be activated. Thus, Jesus advised that: “however, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” (Matthew 17:21, New King James Version). During His earthly ministry, Jesus Christ prayed fervently and He also fasted for several days to achieve miracles even though He was highly anointed; John 3 verse 34 says: “For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.”
Our current problems will not respond to our tears and they will not change unless we confront them head-on. For you will not conquer what you don’t confront. We must all activate the greater power of God within us through fasting, continuous prayer and living a life of holiness, so that: “when the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him and put him to flight [for He will come like a rushing stream which the breath of the Lord drives].” (Isaiah 59:19b, The Amplified Bible).
Let us pray: “Father, strengthen me from the inside by the power of your Holy Spirit,” in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
