When God is on your Side (I)

If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, Let Israel now say …. ” (Psalm 124:1, New King James Version).

This is the key Bible verse for the “Come and See” devotional today.

This verse describes King David’s reflection about what could have happened to the children of Israel if God the Most High was not on their side. He listed the calamities that could have befallen them without the firm support of God: “… then they would have swallowed us alive, when their wrath was kindled against us. Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul; then the swollen waters would have gone over our soul.” (Psalm 124:3-5, New King James Version).

This clearly suggests that if we have God on our side, then we will always succeed in the trials of life.  The enemy can make plans all the time, without a break, but all those efforts are in vain if God is on your side. The Bible states: “devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted; propose your plan, but it will not stand, for God is with us.” (Isaiah 8:10, New International Version).

How then do we ensure that God is on our side?  We need to know that we have to be on His side if he is to be on ours! This is because it requires an agreement if two people are to walk together (read Amos 3:3). If God is to be on our side then we must agree with Him through His indisputable words.

There is no difference between God and His Word. The Bible states: “in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1, New King James Version). You will not see God beside you, but He watches over His Words to ensure that they are performed. His integrity is directly linked to His WORDS.

God ensures that none of His written Word fails you, for as long as you have faith in Him.  In Psalm 34:5 (New King James Version), we read: “they looked to Him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed.” The Almighty God has promised never to fail you and all His words shall be fulfilled in your life.  Similarly the Bible states: “be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6, New King James Version).

Let us pray: “Father, I have faith in Your Word and know that you are always with me. I rededicate my spirit, soul and body to you. Continually be my shield,” in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
