Dangers of Unbelief

Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” (Matthew 13.58, New King James Version).

This is the key Bible verse for the “Come and See” devotional today.

Skepticism, or unbelief, is one of the key strategies that Satan uses to prevent us from achieving our expectations. Unbelief is dangerous and creates an atmosphere that hinders God to meet our needs. The devil knows that our liberation from any form of captivity depends on our knowledge of God and faith that He is able to do what He promises to do.  Also, to achieve success and fulfill our divine purpose depends on our knowledge of who God is. The Bible states: “… but the people who know their GOD shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.” (Daniel 11:32b, New King James Version).

We often undermine the power of God simply because we do not know Him. This ignorance creates unbelief and hopelessness, which eventually hinders us from accessing and experiencing remarkable events. Absolute confidence in God’s ability to help is a prerequisite for receiving answers to our prayers. The Bible declares: “and without faith it is impossible to please GOD, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6, New International Version).

The Bible records the miracles and mighty deeds performed by Jesus Christ during His earthly ministry but, as noted in our key Bible verse, Jesus was not limited by space or time, but by the unbelief of the people.  We, as sons and daughters of God, depend solely on Him and have abiding faith in His ability and promises; therefore, we must avoid the risk of unbelief, which hinders the divine power of God: “Jesus Christ if the same yesterday, today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8b, New King James Version).

Whatever you are facing now is simply history repeating itself, because nothing is new under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9, New International Version states: “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” God has intervened in many hopeless situations and indeed, the Bible records great testimonies and indisputable wonders of God. Women who were once considered barren have become mothers of many children, the blind had their sight restored, the poor became rich, the sick healed, captives liberated and many condemned to death and defeat were given life. The Everlasting God who does not change or grows weary is still able to deliver and save you from shame only if you believe.

Our expectations may differ but the same condition guarantees that we will reach our goals: we must believe in the One whose strength and ability to deliver is constant and unchanging. Thus: “God is not man, one given to lies, and not a son of man changing his mind. Does he speak and not do what he says? Does he promise and not come through?”(Numbers 23:19, The Message). God makes the impossible possible and creates a way where no way exists.

Let us pray: “Father, forgive my unbelief. May I receive strength to trust you absolutely with all my heart,” in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
