Not Beyond the Heels (II):

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” (Genesis 3:15, New King James Version).

This is the key Bible verse for the “Come and See” devotional today.

In the Bible, the narrative of Job demonstrates the limitations of Satan when interfering in the affairs of men and women. Likewise, our key Bible verse for this devotional shows that the enemy has been constrained from finishing his evil work successfully in our lives. He may hurt us today but we will always have the last laugh. He may even cause us to sin and offend God, but His anger is always short-lived: “for His anger is but for a moment, His favour is for life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5, New King James Version).

Job 1 describes the start of the calamities that Job endured.  When Satan made his move to harm Job and his family, he was restrained in terms of what he could and could not do. Before he embarked on his mission to steal, kill and destroy he was reminded of his limitations. Thus, God said: “very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” (Job 1:12, New International Version). He was never allowed to bruise beyond the heels!

We deceive ourselves if we believe that bruising the head of the enemy is going to be an easy task. This is especially true when we are depending entirely on our own wisdom and intellect. As mentioned in the first part of this devotional, we will only succeed in this challenge if we align with the Most High God who sits in heaven.

Only God can decree eternal restrictions on the activities of the devil, and by doing this, give us the chance to crush him under our feet. In the Bible we read: “and the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.” (Romans 16:20, New King James Version). Only our alignment with God gives us strength to defeat the enemy, for none of us shall prevail by strength alone, it is only God’s Grace that can disgrace the devil.

For as long as we abide in the secret place of the Most High through His Word, which is Jesus Christ, we will bruise the head of the enemy that often presents itself in form of stagnation, sickness, poverty, regression, disappointment etc. The Bible states: “you shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.” (Psalm 91:13, New King James Version).

Let us pray: “Father, I declare that all my challenges come under my feet. I receive grace to walk on my high places,” in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
