The Need for Power (III)

“Say to God, ‘How awesome are Your works! Through the greatness of Your power, Your enemies shall submit themselves to You.’” (Psalm 66:3, New King James Version).

This is the key Bible verse for the “Come and See” devotional today.

If we lack sufficient power, then obstacles will remain in our way; this in itself should increase our hunger for power. The enemy is untiring in wanting to see that we do not advance or better ourselves and therefore power is the only weapon we have to fight to achieve our proper place. Even the Son of God needed power for His divine announcement or recognition. The Bible states: “and Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.” (Luke 4:14, King James Version).

We must understand the source of true power in the context of this message.  Sadly, the devil and his agents have deceived many of us into thinking that he can give us power even  though the devil cannot give what he does not have. Remember that after His death and resurrection, Jesus Christ declared: “all authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” (Matthew 28:18b, New King James Version).

Obviously if everything has been taken away, then nothing is left. In this case, Jesus Christ specifically referred to ‘ALL POWER‘  and this means that NO more power is left for anyone else to take; thus the former god of this world, the devil, has no power. If we wish to be endowed with any measure of power then we will need to go to the one who has it all.; we have to align with Jesus for power. Thus, in Luke 10 verse 19 ,Jesus said “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you”

We must realise that just as a dog will not change its animal nature, the devil cannot change its spiritual nature even in his fallen state. Every dog barks and is always naked, regardless of its owner or breed. Likewise, the devil will always exhibit his spiritual nature but without any power because he has none. His main strategy now is to steal, kill and destroy through deceit. The Bible states: “put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” (Ephesians 6.11, New International Version).

If the devil can get our attention through dreams or other fantasies, then he becomes powerful in that area. If you agree with him, then he will work and walk with you, exploiting your ignorance and inflicting pain. God says: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” (Hosea 4:6a, New King James Version). Only those of us who have the knowledge of God will be strong enough to resist the devil and do good deeds. Whenever we experience a defeat or setback, then this is not the work of the devil but usually the result of a lack of knowledge. The Bible states: “a wise man is strong, and a man of knowledge increases power.” (Proverbs 24:5, New American Standard Bible).

Let us pray: “Father, grant me the power to help me finish my tasks successfully. Help me to succeed in every challenge of life,” in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
