Unchanging Plans of God (I)

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11, New King James Version).

This is the key Bible verse for the “Come and See” devotional today.

This Bible verse reveals the eternal plan of God for His children. According to Malachi 3:6, the Almighty God does not change: “for I am the Lord, I do not change; therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.” (New King James Version). This indicates that His plans for our present and future will never be altered. He is not only a good God; His thoughts towards you are also good.

During his earthly ministry, Jesus Christ used many parables to describe the loving nature of the Almighty God and His eternal plans for His people. He introduced God many times as Father and this often incurred the wrath of the teachers of the law. He once said: “if you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”(Luke 11:13, New King James Version).

All fathers, regardless of their limitations, always have good plans for their children. Fathers want their children to have the best of life and become outstanding among their peers. Also, to secure the future of their children, fathers often ensure they leave a lasting legacy before they pass away. The Bible states: “a good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children.” (Proverbs 13:22, New King James Version).

Every aspect of our lives is detailed before God and planned, including seemingly minor things such as the number of hairs on one’s head. Jesus said: “and even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” (Matthew 10:30, New International Version). The plans of God for our lives are predetermined and well preserved. On the other hand, unlike earthly fathers, the Most High God has limitless resources to accomplish His magnificent plans for our futures.

Nothing happens randomly in the life of God’s children. Sometimes, when life is not going as well as expected, we are tempted to think that God has forsaken us or that we are not in His perfect plan. However the Bible reminds us that: “and we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28, New King James Version).

As a child of God, whatever unpleasant situation you are going through will eventually work out in your favour if you trust God. In the end, the outcome will reflect the higher thoughts and plans of the Almighty God.  All your present trials will surely lead to triumph. Simply trust God with all your heart as the author of your life and His thoughts towards you are very good.

Let us pray: “Father, I thank you for your beautiful thoughts towards me. By your mercy, let your plans and purpose be fulfilled in my life,” in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
