In the Potter’s Hand (I)

“’O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?’ says the Lord. ‘Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel!’” (Jeremiah 18:6, New King James Version).

This is the key Bible verse for our “Come and See” devotional today.

Pottery is the art or craft of transforming a piece of raw clay into objects of a required shape; a potter is a person who practices this art or craft.  The first Potter was the Creator of creatures, the Most High God. Potters have creative minds and this makes them rather special because they are able to create something of practical use and often of artistic merit, out of raw clay. Of all the things created by God, only human beings were crafted by His hands from the clay of the earth: And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:7 New King James Version). Everything else was spoken into existence.

The Potter would not be satisfied until His work was perfect and His work became complete only after the formation of man on the sixth day. The Almighty God has not finished with us yet because He is molding every one of us daily, until we are perfect and ready to be displayed to the world. No potter will display work-in-progress or raw materials, but will only display finished works.

You are always in the Potter’s hands for He says: “see, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me.” (Isaiah 49:16, New King James Version). He is aware of the challenges you are facing and knows all your limitations, but He will not rest until His image is perfected in you. The Potter’s hand is safe and secure and no challenges are strong enough to take us out of His hands. However, only those of us who are members of the family of God will remain in the Potter’s Mighty Hands and this is based on the assurance of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the Great shepherd who will only lead His sheep to the Potters’ Gracious Hands. The Bible reads: “Jesus answered, … everything I have done has been authorized by my Father, actions that speak louder than words. You don’t believe because you’re not my sheep. My sheep recognize my voice. I know them, and they follow me. I give them real and eternal life. They are protected from the Destroyer for good. No one can steal them from out of my hand. The Father who put them under my care is so much greater than the Destroyer and Thief. No one could ever get them away from him.” (John 10:27-29, The Message).

The Potter will transform our weaknesses into strength and failures into perfection for as long as we remain in His hands through Jesus Christ.

Let us pray: “Father, mould me and craft me so I may fulfil your perfect plan for my life,” in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
