The Need for Power (II)

“Say to God, ‘How awesome are Your works! Through the greatness of Your power, Your enemies shall submit themselves to You.’” (Psalm 66:3, New King James Version).

This is the key Bible verse for the “Come and See” devotional today.

The first part of this series of devotionals indicated the need to be empowered in order to make any difference in this world. Luke 4:14, King James Version states: “And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.”

Nobody can fulfil their destiny without being adequately endowed with a higher power. It is no wonder that Jesus told the disciples not to depart from Jerusalem before embarking on their evangelical mission. He said: “but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8, New King James Version). Here, Jesus asked them to wait for empowerment, knowing that this would be crucial to their survival, as we later read in the Acts of the Apostles.

We all need power to move obstacles standing in our way. The indisputable laws of science state that every object in a state of uniform motion will remain in that state unless an external force is applied to it; this is applicable to spiritual and physical matters. Nothing moves without applied force

The devil and his fallen angels do not respond to our physical and intellectual abilities.  For example, the devil quickly dealt with Samson despite his muscles and physical strength. Jesus encountered a mad man in the region of Gadarene and He simply commanded the legion of demons that possessed that mad man to leave.

The incident was described as follows: “when he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!” for He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had often seized him, and he was kept under guard, bound with chains and shackles; and he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the wilderness.” (Luke 8:28-29, New King James Version). This account clearly shows that a higher and divine power is needed to be free from every form of captivity.

Your power shows that you are a child of God and it voices your salvation. The Bible states: “concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh,  and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.” (Romans 1:3-4, New King James Version). This is the mark of your Son- ship in God.

Let us pray: “Father, grant me the power to help me finish my tasks successfully. Help me to succeed in every challenge of life,” in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
