When God is on your Side (II)

If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, let Israel now say ….” (Psalm 124:1, New King James Version).

This is the key Bible verse for the Come and See devotional today.

Life is in phases and each phase has its own challenges. The way we survive defeat depends on our ability to rise up afterwards. It helps if our allies stand with us and help us. The Bible states: “two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, New King James Version).

The benefits of having the Almighty God on our side cannot be quantified as He is the Most Reliable Ally, committed to ensuring success in every area of our lives.  He is always with us and for us. He ensures that opposition remain irrelevant with no effect on the outcome of our trials. The Bible reads “what shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31, Authorised King James Version).

The Almighty God is our Father and it cost Him so much, through the priceless blood of Jesus Christ, to establish this eternal relationship with mankind. The Judge of the whole earth happens to be your Faithful Father and sits upon the throne in judgement, in front of us. We are apprehensive and then we realise that we now have the Mediator and Negotiator in the form of Christ Jesus, who advocates for us. Here, the Bible states: “for there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus” (1st Timothy 2:5, New King James Version). Obviously, because of our Advocate, Jesus Christ, the Judge will take our side and rule in our favour.

It is not a question of when God will take our side: rather, we must ask how long He has already been on our side. God takes a person’s side the moment that person agrees with what He says about the situation being faced.  The Bible says: “and without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6, New International Version). With God on your side, every mountain will bow down. In other words, you are assured of success in overcoming all of your life challenges.

Each time you act in faith based on God’s Word, you consciously ask God to your side. Every step of faith you take is a step taken with God whose integrity and faithfulness is directly linked to His Word and Promises. He will never fail you.

Let us pray: “Father, I have faith in Your Word and know that you are always with me. I rededicate my spirit, soul and body to you. Continually be my shield,” in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
